FTTH - Fiber to the Home
General Information
Venus Telephone Corporation continually stays a step ahead with services offered to their customers. Our latest project is FTTH. Fiber optic
communications are the wave of the future - at your door step NOW. What FTTH means to you is very high bandwidth potential as well as
added services we could not offer via copper lines.
Our current offerings are limited by 12 Mb (12 million bits per second) for most customers and as little as 4 Mb (4 million bits per second) to some
of our most distant customers. This means 2 SD (standard definition) digital streams of video and up to a max of 3Mb of data plus voice to most
customers. With FTTH all customers will get a minimum of 72 Mb and businesses and special circuits have potentials of upwards of 1 Gb
(1 billion bits per second).
What this means to you
If you are happy with the services you currently have, nothing will change, except our equipment. If you have DSL only, you will no longer have a
modem. Your PC, MAC, or home network will plug directly into the ONT (optical network termination) - IE the box on the outside of your house.
Another change in the DSL service is you will be assigned to DHCP (dynamic host control protocol). What that means is no more IP addresses - your
computer or home network will be automatically assigned an IP address which means no more troublesome router set up and or PC TCP/IP settings. You will
set all of your devices to "Obtain Automatically" unless you want or need a static IP address. You
will be able to subscribe to faster Internet service if you so desire as well. If you
have TV Service, you will get a new set top box, or multiple set top boxes depending on how many streams of video you want. Along with offering
more streams of video, a DVR (digital video recorder) will be available, as well as HD (High Definition) service.
All of your voice applications will remain the same. In the very near future, Venus Telephone will start offering VoIP (Voice over IP) as well.
