The 1984 Honda ATC200M
The ATC200M is one of two models in the "M" family. The other is the ATC125M. The ATC200M was made in 1984 and 1985 only, while the ATC125M was not only made in those years as a 1st generation bike, but also in 1986 an 1987 as a 2nd generation bike. The "M" designates the electric start function. The 200M is kind of a mutt so-to-speak. It has the rear fenders and gas tank of a 1982-1984 Big Red, and the frame, front fender, headlight, and front suspension of an ATC200. The ATC200M is kind of in a class of its own. While somewhat sporty, the majority of the ATC200Ms I have seen have rear racks. Although not from the factory, dealerships must have put them on most units. Many of the 200Ms also have rear tow hitches, again not from the factory, but rather the dealer. The 200M is somewhat of an oddity around my part of the country as I see fewer of them than almost any other model. I am not aware of the production numbers for this machine, but I can assume they are somewhat low.
The ATC200M in our collection is still very OEM, but not in perfect shape my any means. Still a very nice original piece, it does get ridden very often on our special "hard-tail" rides we go on numerous times throughout the year. It took us a while to locate an ATC200M, and I was very happy with the unit we got as it needed nothing cosmetically or mechanically.
